Cooling Springs is listed in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Places and as a Frederick County Landmark. In 2006, a conservation easement donated by the Michael family to the Maryland Environmental Trust endowed Cooling Springs with perpetual protection against development or major alteration to the home. The Cooling Springs property lies within a large Maryland Priority Preservation Area, officially designated to remain rural, and zoned mostly for agriculture and other pastoral uses. Shown here is Cooling Springs Farm's circa 1760s spring house, which was fully restored and put back in working order in 2004. There are four springs on the farm.
