Landmark

Cooling Springs is listed in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Places and as a Frederick County Landmark. In 2006, a conservation easement donated by the Michael family to the Maryland Environmental Trust endowed Cooling Springs with perpetual protection against development or any major alteration to the home. The Cooling Springs property lies within a large Maryland Priority Preservation Area, legally designated to remain rural, and permanently zoned for agriculture and other strictly pastoral uses. Shown here is the circa 1760s spring house, which was fully restored and put back in working order in 2004.
